The first step in IVF treatment is an initial consultation with a fertility specialist. Ovarian Stimulation
To increase the chances of success in IVF, the woman's ovaries need to produce multiple eggs. Regular monitoring is done through ultrasounds and blood tests to assess the progress and adjust the medication dosage if necessary
Egg Retrieval
Once the eggs have reached maturity, a minor surgical procedure called egg retrieval is performed. The woman is given anesthesia, and a thin needle is inserted into the ovaries to retrieve the eggs. The retrieved eggs are then taken to the laboratory for further processing
Sperm Collection and Preparation
On the same day as the egg retrieval, the male partner provides a semen sample. The sperm sample is washed and prepared in the laboratory to obtain the healthiest and most motile sperm for fertilization
Fertilization and Embryo Development
In the laboratory, the retrieved eggs and prepared sperm are combined and placed in a controlled environment to allow fertilization. After fertilization, the embryos are monitored for several days as they develop and grow
Embryo Transfer
Once the embryos have reached a particular stage of development, they are ready for transfer into the woman's uterus. The embryos are carefully placed into the uterus using a catheter, and the woman is advised to rest and take it easy for a few days after the procedure
The Two-Week Wait
After the embryo transfer, the woman enters the two-week wait period, anxiously awaiting the treatment results. During this time, she may experience various symptoms, such as mild cramping or breast tenderness, which the hormonal changes can cause
The success rates of IVF treatment can vary depending on several factors, including the woman's age, the cause of infertility, the quality of the embryos, and the expertise of the fertility clinic. On average, the success rates for IVF treatment range from 30% to 50% per cycle
